Not a good year for county listing in Leics/Rutland, with only 209 species recorded, meaning my total is about 88% of the possible. Three county ticks though - Red-rumped Swallow (which I found), Nightjar and Manx Shearwater. Couldn't really count a flyover Little Bunting and an apparently wild Lesser White-fronted Goose (also self-found). |

Managed to get 26 Waxwing @ Monkmoor this morning ! Disappointment on Christmas eve dipping on both Twite @ Chelmarsh ( we simply couldn't find 'em ) & later in the day Iceland Gull @ Priorslee , presumably the bird had flown off , no sign of it amongst the hundreds of BHGull's , however still managed to see 90.08% of county year total . Just added Red Grouse , hope to get Waxwing tomorrow !! Could be better , dipped a Leach's Storm-petrel & Common Scoter @ Ellesmere plus Firecrest @ Priorslee flash , still , highlights for 2004 in the green county are : Great Grey Shrike on Brown Clee , Ring Ouzel ( cracking male ) , Bittern ( always good ) , 2 Pectoral Sandpipers , Long-eared Owl , Little Stint , Goshawk & Wood Sandpiper all on local patch !! Finding a Wood Warbler ( first one for 2004 in the county I believe ? ) . Smew ( drake at that ) , 2x Black-necked Grebe , 5x Little Egrets , Osprey & both flycatcher species in the same tree !!! |
