An incredible year for the scarcer species with two additions to the list - Great White Egret and White-rumped Sandpiper. I'm sure it will be difficult to repeat! Disappointly though, it would seem that we have now lost Barn Owl as a breeding species (2nd year running with no records!), while Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch and Marsh Tit may have suffered a similar fate as I spent many hours searching through various woods etc which used to hold all three species with no luck! Low lights: Red-necked Grebe, Bittern, Whooper Swan, Red-crested Pochard, Scaup, Goosander, Quail (the most frustrating miss of the year!), Roseate Tern and Lapland Bunting. Highlights: Black-necked Grebe, Leach's Petrel, Tundra Bean Goose, Eygptian Goose (pen tick), Goshawk (my 2nd Pen. record), GREAT WHITE EGRET (1st Pen record), Spoonbill, BLUE-WINGED TEAL (2nd Pen record - Iv'e seen both), Common Crane, Temminck's Stint, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER (1st Pen record), Long-tailed Skua, Glaucous Gull, Sabine's Gull (Pen tick), BEE-EATER (Pen tick), Wryneck, RED-RUMPED SWALLOW (3rd Pen record, my 2nd), Richard's Pipit, Bluethroat, Cetti's Warbler, Marsh Warbler, Barred Warbler, Dartford Warbler (Pen tick), Yellow-browed Warbler, Pallas's Warbler, DUSKY WARBLER (3rd Pen record - Iv'e seen all of them), RADDES WARBLER (3rd Pen record - Iv'e had all of them), Red-breasted Fly., Red-backed Shrike, Great Grey Shrike, Common Rosefinch, Hawfinch, Crossbill. Regards I would like to thank Will Brame in particular for his efforts and assistance as well as the Landguard members. Good luck to all the patch workers for 2005. |

Latest-Dusky Warbler 2/12, Little Auk 14/11, Pallas` Warbler. Congratulations to Justin. It looks like he will easily beat my 218 in 2001 and must be commended for all the hours he puts in on the peninsular, proving it to be one of the most productive bird areas in the country. I shudder to think what total he would have got had they not changed the lighting at Fagbury Cliff! |

An excellent year with four ticks: Fulmar, 3 Manxies, ROSEATE TERN (Bird-of-the-Century... after a few anxious hours), and the splendid Lesser Yellowlegs. I think the White-headed Duck and Lesser White-front may also be OK. Other goodies included Red-necked Phalarope dropping from the sky in front of me, Britain's first (?) 1st-summer White-winged Black Tern (found but strung for four days!), White-fronts, Velvet Scoter, Purple Sand, Merlin, Kittiwake (pretty rare recently), Sandwich and Little Terns, Bearded Tit, Black Redstart, Hen Harrier (bit of a mega, for me at least), record day-total of Med Gulls (4), my first ever Water Rail chicks, and last but not least, an adult Iceland Gull in near darkness on New Years Eve! All the best to everyone for 2005. |

A steady year for me but pleased with 2 Res ticks, Woodlark a res first and Great Grey Shrike first since 1978. My first Glaucous Gull for 4 years was welcome as was Bevide's second ever Cetti's Warbler. The 250 Redshank in august a site record was another highlight. Hope to find a few more national rareities in 2005. Good luck to all the local patch workers in 2005. |

80+ Yellow Wagtails together on Ken hill marsh in evening sunlight was a stunning sight with Buzzard, Whinchat, Whimbrel and Pochard (rare!) seen on the same day. 2 Pied flycatchers and several Lesser Whitethroats (10+) feeding on clouds of swarming insects was a great sight and finding a Rough-legged Buzzard flying over my head was a pleasant surprise, as was the unexpected Sand plover !!! We had conveniently gone to see the Icterene warbler at Bungay the day it dissapeared, when we heard the news !!!!! |
