Another excellent year for me with six ticks: Savi's Warbler, Tree Pipit (at long last), Montagu's Harrier, Long-billed Dowitcher, Yellow-browed Warbler and Hawfinch. Missed three other ticks (Waxwing, Woodlark & Arctic Skua), all of which just flew through. Best total too (I've only been trying since 2002 though!). Other highlights were Lesser Scaup (which took about 10 hours of collective watching to nail), drake Eider (which didn't), Glaucous and Iceland Gulls (neither of which is a given here), 3 Pecs, 4 White-winged Blacks, Hen Harrier, 2 confiding Snow Buntings and Bittern. Hoping a Raven finally makes it this far east in 2006! All the very best to everyone in the New Year. |

Well what an excellent year its been. Although I didn't beat my best of 172 in 03 the quality was far better. 5 res ticks, Waxwing, Spotted Sand, Egyptian Goose, Ring Necked Duck and Ferruginous Duck was far more than I ever expected. Other highlights were Pec Sand, Grey Phal, Arctic Skua and Great Grey Shrike. It was also nice to see a few species I hadn't seen for several years ie Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Wood Warbler and Grey Partridge. I managed 285 visits over the year missing just Turnstone and Common Crane. Lets hope 06 is as good. Target birds are Black Throated Diver, Ring Ouzel and Bearded Tit which are all res ticks. I would like to congratulate all my fellow patch workers for all their hard work and have a bird filled new year. |

Not a bad year list at all, especially as I spent little time here for most of the start of the year & therefore failed to see alot of easy species. Managed 132 species in 2004, my aim next year is to attempt to hit 140 - but it'll take a lot of effort .... & luck!! |
