47 Perry Smale British 244 28. 12. 02 - American Wigeon at Roadford Reservoir. 29. 12. 02 - Velvet Scoter at Dawlish Warren. That's probably it for this year. It's been brilliant with many highlights. The ones that stand out include the rush of southern overshoots in late March; the Scilly Lesser Kestrel; reaching 400 in July with Quail; the return of the Elegant Tern the same month; and the amazing White-throated Sparrow at Flamborough. This total is still well down on my personal record of 274 in 1995, but then there was a great proportion of that year when I was not working. The only way to get a high total is to have a sympathetic boss or be out of work - not really an option! Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone on Surfbirds and here's to many good birds in 2003!
