First-winter Caspian Gull at Blythburgh, Suffolk videograb © Brian J Small. This is the first first-winter at Blythburgh this winter and was accompanied by a new second-winter. It was most notable for the very pale and bleached greater coverts, possibly indicating that it had come from somewhere sunnier and arrived with the Lesser Black-backs which are now coming in in good numbers. They were taken with an Epson PhotoPC650 digital camera pushed to a Kowa 823 and 32xWA. "Note the size, structure, relatively short bill and particularly the dark throat line dividing the white chin strap." Chris Batty
