| One of two birds at this site. The appearance of juveniles at Southwold is now annual in late August or early September (see last year's juvenile images on Surfbirds). Note in particular: the structure and leg length (and leg colour); the colour and tone of the feather centres; the lack of notching on the juvenile scapulars; the wing-barred effect of the pale tips to the median and greater coverts (and the pattern of internal markings on the greater coverts); the new scapulars. Another juvenile (in very simialr plumage) unfortunately flew off before any footage could be taken. Brian J Small | |
