Second-summer Caspian Gull, Blythburgh, Suffolk 21st July 2001 © Brian J Small. "It is a different (unringed) bird and next to it is a Yellow-legged Gull (probably advanced 2nd-s, well into 3rd-w, and one of 12 in various plumages at the site today). Note the slightly darker mantle of the michahellis and the difference in the structure of the head and bill. The michahellis, as most 2nd-s are by now, shows more head and body markings, due to normal pumage features and more advanced body moult of michahellis. An interesting portrait." Brian J Small
