American Wigeon
Andrew has commented "Some observers think that this individual might not be a 100% pure American Wigeon. In particular, the head pattern is odd - a definite brown tinge to the cheeks, and very fine speckling, rather than the more usual pale grey cheeks with larger blackish flecks. The crown is also distinctly yellow-buff toned. However, all other features seem to be OK for American."

Dave Morgan has commented "I can remember one winter in the late 90s when there was a Wigeon sp. present at Stanford resv (N'hants) and then Eyebrook resv (Leics) which bore a remarkably similar appearance to its head pattern as this one has. This bird was then relegated to an American Wigeon x Chiloe Wigeon hybrid. It appears to show quite a warm head-stripe esp on the forehead and a sharply demarkated head pattern rather than the usual well-defined smudge of pure American Wigeon. It may be useful to note that the Stanford & then Eyebrook hybrid Wigeon also showed pure white axillaries as does this bird."

Bluethroat
"The name for this corner of the lake is gettting dated as it has had Ireland's first Sora and a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper in recent years!

The Bluethroat was Ireland's first truly twitchable record and attracted a large crowd of up 50 birders on a fine November Sunday. Although elusive for the first three hours agter being found, it put on a fine performance in the the afternoon. Note the reddish base of the tail just peeking out on this shot. " John Coveney
