Email Richard - I have been drawing birds since I was very young, and it is an activity I continue to pursue and enjoy. When I see birds in the field, it has become almost an obsession to want to draw them. I realised when I was a teenager that only by trying to draw the bird at the time I was watching it could I begin to capture an accurate likeness. Having to draw it forces you to really look at it, observe the details of its plumage and understand its structure. That said, drawing can still be a great challenge at times, depending on how rapidly the bird is moving, and how much drawing practice I've recently done. I live in Cambridge, UK and currently work for the British Trust for Ornithology.
