Saudi Arabia has some stunning scenery including a relatively unspoilt and rich coastline rising up to the juniper covered Asir Mountains. Ten of the eleven arabian endemic species are on offer; only Yemen Accentor fails to make it over the border. South-west Saudi Arabia shares many species with neighbouring Yemen but has the advantage of offering the same great variety in a much smaller area. For the time-starved birder this means more hours in the field and less in the car or on the plane. (text by Mike Edgecombe)
