In eastern Oz: Southern Cassowary, Golden, Satin & Regent Bowerbirds, Victorias & Paradise Riflebirds, Albert's Lyrebird, Blue-faced Parrotfinch, Noisy Pitta, Painted Honeyeater, Chowchilla, and a stunning pair of Spotted Quail-thrush. Also a load of good nightbirds including Marbled, Papuan & Tawny Frogmouths, Australian Owlet-Nightjar and Powerful Owl. In Tasmania: Little Penguin, Scrubtit, Pink Robin, Flame Robin, Dusky Robin and Cape Barren Goose. Some of the latest additions in southern Ecuador were Jocotoco & Watkins's Antpittas, Elegant Crescent-chest, Plumbeous Rail, Grey-headed Antbird, Henna-hooded Foliage-gleaner, Black-crested Tit-tyrant, Pale-browed Tinamou, El Oro Parakeet, Ochre-bellied Dove, El Oro Tapaculo, Long-wattled Umbrellabird, Bay-crowned & White-headed Brush-finches, Tumbes Sparrow and Piura Hemispingus. Tanager Finch, Peruvian, Giant, Yellow-breasted Antpittas, Rufous Potoo, Orange-breasted Fruiteater and Harpy Eagle in Ecuador; Fiery-tailed Awlbill, Black-girdled Barbet, Hyacinth Macaws, Great Rufous Woodcreeper in Brazil; Bearded Helmetcrest, Vermilion Cardinals, Gray-naped Antpitta, Bronze-tailed Thornbill and Rufous-browed Conebill in Venezuela; Bornean Bristlehead, Blue-headed Pitta, Black-crowned Pitta, Everett's Thrush, Bornean & Black-throated Wren-Babblers in Borneo; Banded and Garnet Pittas in Malaysia along with Rail-Babbler; Chinese Monal, Golden & Lady Amherst's Pheasants, Firethroat, Sichuan Jay, Wood Snipe, Crested Tit-Warbler, Grey-hooded, Golden, Spectacled, & Three-toed Parrotbills in Sichuan, China. So far this year, February in Japan (Short-tailed Albatross, Herald Petrel, Oriental Stork, Japanese Scops Owl, Thayer's Gull, Japanese Waxwings, Pine Puntings etc), Tanzania (Beesley's Lark and Grey-crested Helmetshrike), Western Mexico (Rosy Thrush-Tanagers, Aztec and Grayson's Thrushes plus c60 endemics), Taiwan (all endemics, potential splits etc including gripping views of both pheasants and the partridge and also Fairy Pittas!), Alaska (where highlights included mega views of all 4 eiders, Red-legged Kittiwake, Emperor Geese, Bristle-thighed Curlew, 13 species of alcid and Snowy, Great Grey, Tengmalms (Boreal) and Northern Saw-whet Owls), Uganda (well over 580 species recorded including stunning views of African Green Broadbill, Green-breasted Pitta and Shoebill. Yellow Penduline Tit may have been a first for Uganda and East Africa!!), French Polynesia where highlights included the stunning Tuamotu Sandpiper, the critically endangered Polynesian Ground Dove and the superb Polynesian Storm Petrel as well as a load more globally threatened endemics and 518 species in South Africa in October!

Major highlights have been Bornean Ground Cuckoo, Giant Pitta, Black-breasted Parrotbill, Palawan Peacock-Pheasant, and a bucket load of other goodies!

updated 9 October; a lot of great stuff in Ecuador over the past month incl Baudo Guan in Cotacachi-Cayapas, Red-legged Honeycreeper at Kumanii Lodge, Zimmer's Tody-Tyrant and hundreds of other birds at Kapawi Lodge, Spotted Puffbird and young Harpy at Gareno Lodge, and Yellow-throated Spadebill at WildSumaco; a few bits and pieces during family holiday in Spain and Belgium; great week in Tanzania where highlights included Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, Taveta Golden Weaver and Gray-crested Helmetshrike; loads of other goodies in Ecuador earlier in the year, including singing Tropical Mockingbirds in Chota Valley (first tape-recordings for the country), several range extensions near San Lorenzo, Scarlet-and-white Tanager at <2m, Short-tailed Parrots about 10 km N of Zamora (1st record for SE Ecuador), Beautiful Jays during lunch with my kid at El Pahuma Orchid Reserve, great close-ups of worm-fed Giant, Yellow-breasted and Moustached Antpittas near Mindo, superb scope views of Scarlet-breasted Dacnis, Rufous-winged, Emerald and Blue-whiskered Tanagers at canopy tower in Silanche reserve, Spot-fronted Swifts overhead in same area, first Little Cuckoo for Mindo Cloudforest Reserve, Riverside Tyrant near Sacha Lodge, perched Crested Eagle as well as Ornate and Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle from Sacha Lodge canopy walkway
