Justin Zantboer

Felixstowe Peninsula, Suffolk 219 (BOU)
A funny old year which despite another poor December, saw my 2nd best ever annual total and all without a National Rarity! Red-rumped Swallows were my birds of the Spring and the Spotted Crake the bird of the Autumn. Red-necked Grebe, Sooty Shearwater (seen twice by others virtually standing next to me!) and Great White Egret (several near misses!) were my big dips of the year while notable absentees from the Peninsular included Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Marsh Warbler, both Pallas's and Yellow-browed Warblers, Nuthatch and Red-backed Shrike. As always, a big well done to all of the other Patch listers - best of luck for 2011. Also a big thanks to the Peninsula birders for the flow of information. HIGHLIGHTS: Whooper Swan, Bewick's Swan x15, Tundra Bean Goose x19, Egyptian Goose x2, Mandarin (Peninsula lifer!), Red-crested Pochard, Long-tailed Duck, Velvet Scoter, Ruddy Duck x2, Smew, Grey Partridge, Slavonian Grebe x3, Black-necked Grebe x2, Bittern x2, Spoonbill x3, Purple Heron (my 2nd Pen record), Red Kite, Osprey, Rough-legged Buzzard, Spotted Crake (my 2nd Pen record), Temminck's Stint x2, Pectoral Sandpiper, Grey Phalarope, Long-tailed Skua, Caspian Gull, Glaucous Gull, Long-eared Owl, Wryneck, Ring-necked Parakeet, Red-rumped Swallow x4, Shore Lark, Water Pipit x2, Waxwing x40+, Barred Warbler, Icterine Warbler, Wood Warbler, Bearded Tit, Marsh Tit, Tree Sparrow, Mealy Redpoll x2, Twite x2, Crossbill x6, Common Rosefinch, Hawfinch, Lapland Bunting (x4+) and Ortolan Bunting.

Nick Addey

Scarborough 212 (BOU)
212 species recorded of the 223 species for 2010. Scalby Lodge Pond was to blame for my lack of challenge on the Languard men, a dry pond from early May onwards cost me five regular waders; Curlew Sand/Black-t Godwit/Wood Sand/Little Stint/ and incredibly Ruff!! Red Kite continues to be my bogey bird, 9+ records this year and I still need it for Scarborough after 7 years of living here. And whats happened to Scaups?..none this year and I haven't seen one since Feb 2008!! Good luck in 2011. HIGHLIGHTS; White-fronted Goose, Tundra Bean Goose, Garganey, Long-tailed Duck, Smew, Quail, Red-necked Grebe, Great Northern Diver, Black-throated Diver, Balearic Shearwater, Storm Petrel, Leach's Petrel, Bittern, Little Egret, Osprey, Hen Harrier, Hobby, Grey Phalarope, Pomarine Skua, Long-tailed Skua, Glaucous Gull, Iceland Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Little Auk, Waxwing, Shore Lark, Water Pipit, Richard's Pipit, Black Redstart, DESERT WHEATEAR, Ring Ouzel, Grasshopper Warbler, Barred Warbler, Icterine Warbler, Wood Warbler, Yellow-browed Warbler, Dusky Warbler, Firecrest, Great Grey Shrike, Red-backed Shrike, Hooded Crow, Mealy Redpoll, Twite, Common Rosefinch, Snow Bunting, Lapland Bunting. www.scarboroughbirding.co.uk
