Spent entire year in South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina) except first two weeks of Jan in Panama. Among too many highlights, 36 spp of antpitta and 41 spp of tapaculo. Latest additions from November in central and southern Chile and Argentina include Dinelli's Doradito, Salinas Monjita, sweep of all central Chilean endemics, Hooded Grebe, Austral Rail, White-bellied Seedsnipe, and Patagonian Tinamou. Late addns in late Dec incl Pampas Meadowlark, Yellow Cardinal, 5 spp of seedeater, Black-crowned and Rusty-backed monjitas, both reedhaunters, Red-and-white Crake.

Ended the year with a trip to the Andaman Islands, Corbett and Naini Tal. 25 Nov. Further field time in PNG added displaying Black Sicklebill and Superb BOP; daytime roosting Mtn. Owlet-Nightjar and special views of ad. male Wattled Ploughbill11 Nov. Short trip to PNG produced 5 male Flame Bowerbirds and exceptional Southern Crowned Pigeons; 2 Sept. Further trips to Sabah, Borneo, Bali, Java and Sumatra produced a nice collection incl. nesting Large Frogmouth, Javan Gibbon, Sumatran Spitting Cobra and 3 Bornean Ground-Cuckoos. 21 June: A 2 week trip to Uganda incl. Semuliki produced a wonderful array of birds & mammals incl. Black-casqued Wattled Hornbill; a glowing Forest Robin; both Buff-spotted and White-spotted flufftails on the same morning in Budongo and my first Crested Malimbe! 29 May: Kazakhstan & Uzbekistan: Pallas's Sandgrouse, Goitered Gazelle, Crimson-winged Finch, Pander's Ground-Jay; 1 May: Bhutan - fabulous as always; several close male Satyr Tragopans; sensational and prolonged views of Wedge-billed, Long-billed + 4 other wren babblers and an unforgetable last afternoon's birding near Somdrup Jonkhar; 4 April - Delacour's Langur, Black-crowned Barwing, Sooty Babbler, Short-tailed Parrotbill are just some of the many fine creatures garnered in Vietnam. 4 March - Undoubtedly the highlight was superb views of a Tufted-eared Ground-Squirrel in addition to a male Siberian Blue Robin and my first Bornean Malaysian Rail-Babbler; 14 Feb. Several superb Bornean species including displaying Maroon-chested Philentoma; 8 Jan. Sev. spp. over the SCG as England won the Ashes! 3 Jan. Birding around my home property and nearby; best bird Plum-headed Finch.
