Carr Vale NR in north-east Derbyshire had it's best ever year in 2016 when between us we recorded 157 species, of which I saw 150 despite being away for a total of four months during the year. Best Birds Caspian Tern, Sabine's Gull and White Stork all new for the patch with Gannet and Great Grey Shrike new for me. Other goodies Bewick's and Whooper Swan, White-fronted Goose, Shag, Bittern, Red Kite, Marsh and Hen Harrier, Osprey, Grey Plover, Whimbrel, Black-tailed Godwit, Ruff, Sanderling, Jack Snipe, Black, Sandwich and Arctic Terns, Kittiwake, Med, Little and Caspian Gull, Barn Owl, Merlin, Marsh Tit (first for 20 years), Cetti's Warbler, Siberian Chiffchaff, Waxwing, Rock Pipit and I also managed to miss Glossy Ibis and Pied Flycatcher.
