Tony Galvan lives and birds in Goleta, California. Tony began sketching as a teenager. Spending time in Wichita, Kansas he became fascinated by Hawks. Moving to Colorado put him closer into the woods and he began to learn more about birds. Military service allowed him to go to places where more unusual birds were found and he continued to sketch. While at Colorado State University help and contacts resulted in his first publications to Western Birds. Tony enjoys working with pencil and ink but also with oil pastels and color pencils. "One thing I do enjoy is sketching family trips. My wife and I went to Africa in June to witness the solar eclipse and I came back with many fun and memorable sketches of the trip and the animals we saw." By day Tony is a network administrator at Santa Barbara City College.
"The Great Horned Owl (above) is a bird I've admired since a teenager. I've walked down many trails - often surprised to see one within arm's distance in a stand of trees here in Goleta. While the owl is a messenger of death in many cultures, to me it shows me what patience is about."
