"At the beginning of April, I managed to visit a place high on my wish list, the Extremadura in Spain. My starting point was the famous Monfragüe National Park in the north, with its numerous species of raptor, Griffon and Egyptian Vultures, Eagle Owl, the majestic Spanish Imperial Eagle and Black Storks. The weather was rainy but I found shelter at the Portilla del Tietar outlook point.
I travelled then to the south to the vast steppes of La Serena, where the "target" species were Great and Little Bustards and other typical steppe birds. I was happily surprised by the high density populations of Montagu`s Harrier, Calandra Lark and Corn Bunting. Lesser Kestrels, Spotless Starlings and White Storks were virtually everywhere! What a fantastic experience! I wish I had more than 9 days to spend there!"
