The Society of Wildlife Artists - 42nd Annual Exhibition

London, September 2005

Peregrine Falcon by Andrew Stock

The Society of Wildlife Artists take Stock

The new President of the Society of Wildlife Artists, Andrew Stock, is encouraging all birders to bring out the artists in themselves. "The discovery and encouragement of new young artists with fresh ways of depicting wildlife keeps us all on our toes, enriches the Society and gives the exhibition a positive and vibrant energy".

The degree to which birders respond will be seen at the Society's annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London (SW1, near Trafalgar Square) from 28th September to 9th October. The exhibition will show the very best of contemporary art that takes the natural world as its starting point and explores the entire spectrum of wildlife art. Exhibits will include paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures.

With nearly 500 works on show it is not only the leading place to see what is happening in wildlife art today but also provides an opportunity to buy art by leading artists as well as by talented new-comers. The Society's members produce most of the work on display but non-members are invited to submit their work to be judged by the council for inclusion in the exhibition.

A major new prize this year is the Birdwatch Artist of the Year Competition which for the first time will be awarded at the SWLA exhibition, in association with Birdwatch magazine and Swarovski Optik. This competition is regarded as the bird world's leading art award and the overall winner of the competition will receive Swarovski optics of his or her choice and £1,000 in cash, all courtesy of Swarovski Optik, as well as a three-year subscription to Birdwatch.
