This was a family road trip visiting the Utah National Parks (sandwiched between nights in Vegas), so birding was not a priority. However, these trip lists will give you a flavor of the species possible to see at this time of year with little effort.

Zion National Park

We stayed at Cliffrose Lodge and Gardens just outside the park that was family friendly, had great gardens with lots of hummingbird feeders swarming with Black-chinned Hummingbirds and a single Rufous. It had a fantastic buffet breakfast and it's a short walk in to the park's visitor center where you can then catch a shuttle to various stops in the park. Birds seen in one day here were:

Black-chinned Hummingbird
Rufous Hummingbird
Black-headed Grosbeak
Wild Turkey
Chipping Sparrow
Golden Eagle
Steller's Jay
Yellow Warblers
Black Phoebe
Western Pipistrelle
Mule Deer

Cedar Breaks

We stopped at this less well-known National Park in the hopes of Three-toed Woodpecker and Dusky Grouse. No luck with the grouse but very lucky with the woodpecker along the Alpine Pond Nature Trail where the path goes down to the pond.

Pine Siskin
White-crowned Sparrow
Townsend's Solitaire
Orange-crowned Warbler
Three-toed Woodpecker
Mountain Bluebird
Chipping Sparrow
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Mountain Chickadee

Tropic

There's not much to the town of Tropic itself but it is close to Bryce National Park and we stayed in pleasant Bryce Country Cabins and had a nice meal outside town at the Stone Canyon Inn which is a nice hotel about 5 miles outside of town. I managed to get out and bird before breakfast outside of town in the desert area and had:

Western Kingbird
Say's Phoebe
Lesser Goldfinch
Black-headed Grosbeak
House Finch
Pine Siskin
Black-throated Gray Warbler
Virginia's Warbler
Juniper Titmouse
Plumbeous Vireo
Ash-throated Flycatcher
Western Tanager
Black-tailed Gnatcatcher
Broad-tailed Hummingbird
Spotted Towhee
Woodhouse's Scrub-jay
Costa's Hummingbird
Rufous Hummingbird
