"A digiscoped photo from last month of a bird still present at the feeders of John and Vicki Johnsonbaugh. Initially detected around 15 Dec., the general birding public began viewing it Christmas Day. Thanks to the gracious hospitality of the hosts, close to 400 birders have since enjoyed this 5th state record. It fortunately survived a severe ice storm recently and was seen as late as 9 Feb, but its visits have become much more infrequent. " Jeff McCoy

Gyr Falcon
"Texas' first Gyr - and the southernmost ever documented in the New World (Lubbock is the equivalent latitude of Rabat, Morocco; Damascus, Syria; and Osaka, Japan:- I wonder if Gyr has ever been recorded this far south in the Old World?). It was found by Lubbock birder Anthony Floyd on Jan 21, and is still present, roosting on this water tower near a large park where lots of wildfowl roost and feed (it was seen plucking a Canada Goose on Jan 21st!)"
