Spread-wing shot showing subtle 'air-brushed' darker grey areas on outer primaries.
Detail of folded primaries showing subtle darker grey edges to primary projection. These are difficult to see at range and all but invisible in flight.
This adult presumed Viking Gull (i.e. Glaucous / Herring Gull hybrid) is last year's returning bird, roosting at nearby Ogston Reservoir. In poor light at range it could easily be mistaken for a pure Glaucous Gull by the unwary, although the upperparts are slightly too dark and the white primary projection looks 'constricted'.
