Over 1,200 of the world's 8,650 species are found in India. India's bird check-list is twice the size of Europe and North America. From the highest Himalaya to the great mangrove forest delta in the Sundarbans the land is unique. It is home for some of the most sought after wild birds in the world. This abundance is attributable to the extraordinary variety of habitat and climate, which include; coastal mangrove forests, tropical deciduous forests, coniferous & sub-alpine forests, dense evergreen forests, scrubland, grassland and desert. The climate varies between extreme hot to the alpine cold of the snowy regions.

The best time to visit India are the months between October and April as, in addition to the variety of resident species, migratory waterfowl, raptors and a host of other species are also to be seen. Of the numerous wildlife sanctuaries boasting a rich variety of birds, the most popular ones include Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Corbett National Park, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary and Sultanpur National Park.
